Acknowledgments
This work has many pieces that took a long time to come to fruition. We are so grateful to our many authors, most of whom were college students when this process began and now are graduates or finishing their university programs. They are all brilliant writers, poets, artists, and makers. We appreciate the patience, persistence, and grace that these authors shared with us during this long process that bridged a pandemic and worked through multiple iterations of this published work. Their stories make clear the value of a college experience and the wealth that inclusion brings to higher education.
We would also like to thank those who shepherded this work: our editor, Pieter Martin, editorial assistant Anne Carter, Manifold digital projects editor Terence Smyre, and the entire team at the University of Minnesota Press. Bringing a work like this to publication is no small feat, especially in the world of academic publishing. We recognize the effort that was made to see value in work not often noticed by mainstream academia. It is what makes this work important but risky, and we are grateful for the support that was required.
We appreciate and recognize our colleagues in inclusive higher education and inclusive education writ large: those who are doing this work under the radar for fear of being noticed and asked to leave; those who are working with no real recognition or funding; those who are the only inclusive educators in their university, state, region, or country. We know that this work is just the beginning and we have seen it grow in unimaginable ways. We are so excited for the future.
