Patented Technology as a Model System for Cultural Evolution
Full description
The study of cultural evolution would benefit from model systems analogous to model organisms in biology. Patented technology fills this role as a baseline for comparison with and extrapolation to non-model cultural systems in three dimensions: hyper-parental genealogies of cultural traits, open-ended innovation in cultural systems, and automated methods for data mining to visualize and quantify cultural evolution.
