Complex interdisciplinary problems prompt laboratories to create cognitive-cultural scaffolding for productive groundbreaking research. A long-term ethnographic investigation of cognitive and learning practices in the biomedical engineering sciences, with special attention to the design and construction of devices that constrain socio-cultural evolution of the relevant theorizing and prompt curricular revision.
