Antonio Contreras: National College Signing Day, February 2, 2021

As the video begins, the screen is black with large white letters centered that read, “National College Signing Day.” There is upbeat music playing in the background. The video transitions to a picture of an individual sitting in an office chair. This individual is leaning back slightly, and the chair is pushed away from a table.

The individual is a young 20-something man and he has dark colored hair and is wearing eyeglasses with dark frames. In this picture, the young man is smiling. He is wearing a greyish colored button-down shirt and blue pants. There is an empty office chair to the side of the individual. A table draped in black linen is in front of him and there are several tabletop microphones set up and facing the individual.

In the upper right corner of the screen, white text with a black border reads, “Three of the nation’s top inclusive college programs that educate students with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) offered Antonio admission.

The screen transitions back to a black screen, but the text remains in the upper right corner. Next, the screen transitions to show a close-up photo of a ball cap. The cap is a dark color with light trim. On the front of the cap the letters “G” and “T” are prominently feature. To the right of the ball cap on the screen is a picture of a school logo for Georgia Tech. In this picture, there is a navy blue stripe on the left edge with Georgia Tech lettered in yellow. The text reads up from the bottom. G and T are in white and outlined in blue and take up a huge portion of the picture. There is a cartoonish looking yellow jacket—the mascot for Georgia Tech sitting on the upper right edge of the logo. Centered at the bottom of the screen in white reads, “Georgia Tech EXCEL.”

The screen transitions again. This time, the ball cap on the left of the screen is orange and has a block letter S in navy blue. The picture on the right depicts the school logo for Syracuse University which is a large orange S outlined in navy blue. An orange wearing a navy and orange ball cap with a huge grin—the mascot for Syracuse University is to the lower right of the S. Centered at the bottom of the screen in white reads, “Syracuse InclusiveU.”

The screen transitions once again. This time, the ball cap on the left of the screen is red with large white embroidered letters for Union Bulldogs on the front. The picture on the right depicts the school logo for Union University. Union University is centered at the top of the picture in red, black, and white lettering. Below, a grey, white, and black face of a bulldog is staring out. Centered at the bottom of the screen in white reads, “Union EDGE.”

As the screen transitions; first to a black background and then to another picture of Antonio; white text is centered in the middle of the screen and reads, “Which college will Antonio choose?” A picture of Antonio is now visible. In this picture, the camera is looking straight on him as he sits at a table. There are multiple table-top microphones pointed toward his mouth and the three previously mentioned ball caps from Georgia Tech, Syracuse University, and Union University are on display from left to right in front of the microphones.

Seated next to Antonio is a young girl wearing a purple shirt with a multi-colored heart. She has dark brown hair that is swept back with a red headband. She is looking at Antonio. Behind Antonio’s shoulder is a horse head statue.

As the screen transitions, the upbeat music begins to fade, and several overlapping voices can be heard. In this next frame, Antonio is leaning forward toward the microphones. He is now surrounded on both sides and has several people standing behind him. The three ball caps are still visible in front of the microphones. Antonio begins speaking into the microphones. His speech is captioned at the bottom of the screen in white text.

Antonio: I want to thank God for His many blessings. I want to thank my parents and family for taking care of me. For the next four years, I’m going to be a….

As Antonio pauses before announcing his college choice, the young girl stands up from her seat and waves her hand back and forth over the ball caps. Her hand finally stops above the Georgia Tech hat and she picks it up to hand to Antonio. Cheers from everyone in the room erupt as Antonio takes the Georgia Tech hat from the young girl and places it on his head. He is smiling brightly and then leans into the microphones to speak.

Antonio: …A Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech!

The cheers and clapping continue. The other people in the room all reach in and pat Antonio on this back. Everyone is smiling and cheering. The screen transitions to show a navy blue stripe running up the left side of the screen with Georgia Tech in large yellow letters. At the bottom of the screen, the words, “Antonio E. Contreras signs with Georgia Tech! flash on and off.

The screen transitions to a full view of the Georgia Tech logo and the Georgia Tech Fight Song begins to play in the background. As the fight song continues to play in the background, the screen transitions back to a full view of Antonio surrounds by numerous individuals. All of the individuals in the picture are smiling. At the bottom of the screen in white text reads, “Congratulations Antonio on CHOOSING to be a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech!”

On the next screen, Antonio is standing and is flanked on both sides by his parents. He is wearing his Georgia Tech hat. All three individuals are smiling. At the bottom of the screen in white text reads, “We are proud of you for demonstrating resilience.” The fight song music continues through the end of the video.

The final screen is all black with white text that reads, “We are grateful to Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Union University for seeing Antonio’s strengths, talents, and potential! As the video concludes, the screen fades to black.
