Acknowledgments

For the whole beautiful mess: the trans accomplices doing rad work within and beyond the academy, the vast interwoven trans and queer kith-kin in East Tennessee and South Florida and Indiana and Pennsylvania and all the other places I’ve been thrown, and especially those doing the hard work in the South, from the lowcountry to the ridges. For Aren, whose cothinking made it possible to work these ideas out, and for Greg, for giving us a capacious space to begin to do so. For everyone taking and giving care as best they can. For Jules and Zena, for reading this early, and so carefully. For Libby and Tobias, for everything.

We’re impossible without each other.
