Contributors

  • Rina Bliss is associate professor of sociology at Rutgers University. She is author of Rethinking Intelligence: A Radical New Understanding of Our Human Potential, Social by Nature: The Promise and Peril of Sociogenomics, and Race Decoded: The Genomic Fight for Social Justice.
  • Joy Boyer served the ELSI Program from 1996 until her retirement in 2022.
  • Lisa D. Brooks was a senior program director at the National Human Genome Research Institute.
  • Christopher R. Donohue was the historian of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is currently a researcher at the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) and a member of the LoTempio Lab, both at University of California, Irvine. He is coeditor, with Charles Wolfe, of Vitalism and Its Legacy in Twentieth Century Life Sciences and Philosophy.
  • Michel Dubois is the director of the GEMASS lab in Paris and a permanent Senior Research Fellow from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).
  • Elise A. Feingold was a scientific program director within the Division of Genome Sciences at NHGRI.
  • Adam L. Felsenfeld was a program director in the Division of Genome Sciences at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).
  • Miguel García-Sancho is a senior lecturer at the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Studies of the University of Edinburgh. He is coauthor of A History of Genomics Across Species, Communities and Projects.
  • Eric D. Green was the director of the National Human Genome Research Institute. He is now chief medical officer at Illumina.
  • Catherine Guaspare is a permanent engineer at the CNRS. She is a member of the GEMASS lab (CNRS—Sorbonne University).
  • Chris Gunter is the senior advisor to the director for genomics engagement at the National Human Genome Research Institute.
  • Stephan Guttinger is a lecturer in Philosophy of Data and Data Ethics at the University of Exeter, UK.
  • Mark Guyer retired from the NIH in 2014.
  • Elke Jordan retired as deputy director of the National Human Genome Research Institute in 2002, after a career that spanned the entirety of the Human Genome Project.
  • Jonathan E. LoTempio Jr. is the PI of the LoTempio Lab and associate director for Translational Bioethics, at the University of California, Irvine.
  • Alan C. Love is Distinguished McKnight University Professor of Philosophy and Winton Chair in the Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, as well as director of the Minnesota Center for Philosophy of Science. He is coeditor of Beyond the Meme: Development and Structure in Cultural Evolution (Minnesota, 2019).
  • Jean McEwen was a program director in the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications Program at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) from 1999 to 2017.
  • Jane Peterson was the CEO and president of the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology until her retirement in 2019. She was the leader of the Human Genome Mapping Project and the Human Genome Sequencing Centers at the NIH.
  • Anya Plutynski is professor of philosophy and affiliate of the Division of Biology and Biomedical Science at Washington University in St. Louis. She is author of Explaining Cancer: Finding Order in Disorder and coeditor of the Blackwell’s Companion to the Philosophy of Biology and Routledge Handbook to Philosophy of Biodiversity.
  • Ramya M. Rajagopalan is assistant professor at the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science at UC San Diego. Leveraging a multidisciplinary lens, and empirical methods from the social and behavioral sciences and bioethics, her research develops novel tools and frameworks for advancing equitable and patient-centered applications of technology in healthcare delivery. Recent work has explored how clinical implementation of genomic and artificial intelligence tools may productively intersect with efforts to alleviate health disparities. Her work has been published in leading journals including AJOB Empirical Bioethics, Journal of the History of Biology, Social Studies of Science, and Social Science and Medicine.
  • Emanuele Ratti is senior lecturer in Philosophy of Science and AI in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Bristol.
  • Sahotra Sarkar is professor of philosophy and integrative biology at the University of Texas Austin.
  • Jeffery A. Schloss was the director of the Division of Genome Sciences at the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health. He also co-chaired the Nanomedicine Roadmap Initiative and the Trans-NIH NANO Task Force.
  • Magdalena Skipper is editor in chief of Nature and chief editorial advisor for the Nature Portfolio.
  • Alexandra Soulier is a research fellow at the Institute of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology in Paris.
  • Thomas Stoeger is an assistant professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University.
  • Eric Vilain is the Vice Dean for Clinical Research, director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS), and associate vice chancellor for Health Affairs at the University of California, Irvine.
  • Kris A. Wetterstrand is the program operations lead in the NHGRI Division of Extramural Operations (DEO). She works with the Office of Genomic Data Science and the Genomic Program Administrator (GPA) to implement data sharing policies.
